A woman that was pulled over by a New Hampshire state trooper for doing 82 mph in 65 mph zone gave the teary excuse that she was rushing to be by her dying father's side; the trooper was compassionate and allowed her to continue on her way but caught up with speeding liar a few days later.
The diligent trooper decided to look into the claim about her father and was surprised that woman lied to get out of a more serious charge.
WMUR reports that Carley Williams, 28, claimed she was hurrying to see her dying father at a hospital, but when the officer checked, he found that wasn't the case.
Williams was driving about 9 p.m. Friday on the Everett Turnpike when she got stopped. Police said the trooper clocked her at 82 mph.
"The story that Miss Williams gave Trooper Cummings was completely false," said Lt. Christopher Wagner.
Police said Williams claimed her father was dying and she was racing to Catholic Medical Center in Manchester to be by his side. Officials said her story was convincing.
"The trooper, using his best roadside discretion was looking to maintain public safety but at the same time appealing to the emotional needs of Miss Williams," Wagner said. "He took down the basic information, and he sent her on her way."
But when the trooper tried to verify Williams' story, he learned that her father has been dead since 2008, police said. He also learned that the license plates on the car she was driving were suspended.
On Sunday, the trooper went to Williams' home with a copy of her father's obituary and arrested her. She was charged with driving after suspension of registration and speeding.
