Twitter to use keyword targeting advertisement

Contributed by: Email on 04/17/2013 01:07 PM [ comments Comments ]

Twitter announced the introduction of a keyword targeting capability. The function would essentially use specific pre-selected keywords and couple them with the proper advertisement, basically tailoring the experience for a particular users likes and needs.

For example: let’s say a user tweets about enjoying the latest album from their favorite band, and it so happens that band is due to play a concert at a local venue. That venue could now run a geotargeted campaign using keywords for that band with a Tweet containing a link to buy the tickets. That way, the user who tweeted about the new album may soon see that Promoted Tweet in their timeline letting them know tickets are for sale in their area.

Twitter makes clear that you will not notice any difference to your account, and there will not be any increase in advertisement, but more than likely what you do see will actually be of interest to you. Users will still be able to dismiss any promoted tweets that are not relevant to them.

This seems like it will be a great tool for advertisers looking to pin-point specific people, and great for the consumer who might otherwise have missed out on something that they actually were interested in.

I am just guessing that this will not cost 1 million dollars for an advertiser to use, but I could be wrong.
