The US Department of Justice announced that two Iranian men, Mohammed Reza Rezakhah, 39 and Mohammed Saeed Ajily, 35, have been charged with hacking into a software company from Vermont that develops US defense technology
The company develops "proprietary software that assists users in, among other things, aerodynamics analysis and design for projectiles from bullets to GPS guided artillery shells.”
The software that Arrow Tech sells is PRODAS (Projectile Rocket Ordnance Design and Analysis System) which sells for between $40,000 and $800,000.
The two hackers were planning on selling it to Iran and other nations in violation of economic sanctions.
A third party, Nima Golestaneh, used two servers, one based in Canada and one in the Netherlands, in order to access Arrow Tech computers. He has been arrested and pleaded guilty.
Mohammed Reza Rezakhah used those servers, so that the intrusions would be more difficult to trace, in order to penetrate Arrow Tech and steal the software. His partner, Ajily, then sold the software to Iranian companies associated with military agencies and universities.
