The U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee has submitted its funding provision to the U.S. Senate which includes a ban prohibiting any agency of the DOD to use Kaspersky Anti-virus software.
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) added the provision to the bill explaining that "ties between Kaspersky Lab and the Kremlin are very alarming."
The provision was added to the bill one day after FBI agents visited Kaspersky employees. The meeting were described as "brief interactions."
The leading cybersecurity research and software company has come under scrutiny for its alleged close relationship with Kremlin officials, stirring fears that the company could assist Russia with cyber campaigns.
Four intelligence and justice officials testified before the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee at a May 11th hearing that they would not feel comfortable with Kaspersky's software on their computers.
Kaspersky has repeatedly denied it has any ties with the Russian government.
