WhosIP is a command line utility intended for searching and retrieving all available information on specific IP address. It can be vital when attempting to find the origin of unsolicited mail or tracking down a company that is internet based.

WhosIP provides the same information as the popular IPNetInfo utility, but is not set up to be pretty. If you are not comfortable using command line applications then IPNetinfo will suit you much better as it does feature a more user friendly interface to work with. That being said, for someone that is comfortable executing searches through the command line prompt; WhosIP will quickly provide them with who the owner of the IP address is, the country/state name where located, IP addresses range as well as specific contact information (address, phone, fax, and email). IPNetinfo does the same, but as shown below is displayed within a familiar and friendly user interface.

From time to time, the WHOIS server of ARIN is down and doesn't respond to WHOIS requests from WhosIP or IPNetInfo, and thus they will fail to retrieve the IP address. When such a thing occurs, simply try again later.
