Microsoft says it is on the verge of making it possible to talk with anyone on the planet, regardless of whether or not you know their language.

Satya Nadella, the software giant's new CEO, unveiled technology intended to break down language barriers, dubbed Skype Translator.
Translator, jointly developed by Microsoft researchers and Skype engineers, uses real-time speech-to-speech translation technologies. That allows a person to have a real time conversation with anyone in the world.
Skype Translator will first be available as a Windows 8 beta app before the end of the year, Microsoft said.
If it sounds a little like Star Trek, it is.
Microsoft said Skype attracts more than 300 million users every month, and more than 2 billion minutes of conversation a day.
