On Wednesday, a 38 year old working Apple-1 computer sold at auction for a record $905,000. That was almost double what was the original estimate.
The Apple-1, essentially a stand-alone circuit board, was hand-built by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in 1976. According to an antique computer specialist, the computer may have been one of the first lot of 50 built. They were originally sold for $666.66 each. Overall, 200 were produced.
It is believed that 60 of the computers still survive, but as few as 15 are in working condition.
