I am a huge fan of LED bulbs. Just a couple of years ago they tended to differ so much in style and functionality but now they all look, and perform, like normal light bulbs.
Where I live currently, we have ridiculous electric prices currently due to an outdated power plant so I could justify the additional cost. I even added exterior lights to shine on my house because they are affordable to run and give a nice, bright glow at night. I think I must have purchased dozens of LED lights over the years. They never get hot and you can touch them even when they have run for hours. The pluses continue with the fact that I have not replaced a light bulb in years!
So, you get my point; LED’s are the bomb.

One thing hasn’t changed however; the price of LED bulbs. I occasionally spot a good deal but not with consistency. The savings are there if you can afford to replace your most often used bulbs, but you still have to eat $20-$40 for a bulb. Now, Walmart wants to change the game with an affordable line of light bulbs. The Great Value LED light bulb line has 26 different bulb types. The different types include a non-dimmable 60-1 equivalent LED bulb it retails for $8.88. A dimmable version of that 60-1 equivalent LED bulb is available for $9.88.
I know, still expensive for a light bulb. I suck at math but I can explain this one the best I can. Replace all your bulbs with LED and you could save $129 a year for an average home. Let’s say you need 12 bulbs. That’s about $120 so you are even in one year. BUT, most of these bulbs will last 20 years so now add in the money you spend replacing bulbs and one can see the savings start after the first year or so. You can enjoy a cool, brighter white light and save $1,000 over the first 10 years. Don’t tell me you can’t find somewhere to blow $1,000? $1,000 could buy a high end PC or 3D LED TV!
