WalMart introduces the Vudu dongle

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 11/07/2014 10:24 AM [ comments Comments ]

WalMart is getting into the dongle game.

Vudu, a Walmart-owned video streaming and download service, recently showed up on the FCC website. South Korea-based Inkel Corporation, an electronics maker, is behind the FCC filing. Walmart is not the only one in the game. Google came out with its Chromecast in 2013, Roku introduced its $50 streaming dongle in early 2014 and Microsoft came out with its $60 Miracast device in September. Kickstarter, a small company, is expected to introduce its Matchstick, a Firefox OS powered stick in 2015.

Using the Vudu device is very simple, according to the user manual. You plug it into your TV's HDMI port, connect it to your Wi-Fi network, and then the Vudu app loads. Other than the stick itself, the device apparently comes with an RF remote control.
