With the popularity of online sites willing to buy your old devices, Walmart wants in on the game.
This new program allows you to trade in your smartphone, video games, MP3 players, computers, camera, and other electronics.
This new program is brand new and we aren't sure how well it will work since they admit they won't pay top dollar:
"While you may not get the top dollar for your old gear, you will be able to get a Walmart card in seconds and then use it to buy whatever you want from the retail giant. Simply select the device you want to trade-in, enter its condition and “push the button.” Before you know it, you’ll get a Walmart card code that can be used either online at Walmart.com or at any Walmart store across the country."

A couple of problems came to mid as I browsed the website. First, Walmart would be better off allowing you to walk in the store and trade it in. This way, they can justify a lower price by offering you cash on the spot, like a pawn shop. That is not available; this is online only.
While Walmart is a huge retailer, they have a ton of competition in this arena and by admitting they won’t pay top dollar; that makes me wonder if they are even competitive.
Finally, I looked for newer devices like an iPhone 5 and Galaxy S4 and there was no option. I happen to have a 5 sitting here I could ditch. The phone has been out for almost a year so it seems Walmart is only looking to buy what technology geeks would consider “old”. The assumption here is by buying only 1-2 generations back they can pay very little and double their money.
It seems like the biggest idea here is that they are willing to consider more than just your devices.
Not feeling it. If you give it a try, let us know how you make out.
