Warning: Gmail phishing scam making the rounds

Posted by: Jon Ben-Mayor on 02/04/2015 01:15 PM [ comments Comments ]

A friend of mine in CT received an email allegedly from Google, he did a little digging around and found that others had received similar emails which have been confirmed as phishing attempts. As with most phishing expeditions the email appears to be legit and stresses some urgently pending action needing to be addressed.

In this case it's about saving your Gmail account from deactivation.

The email claims that due to errors coming from your account your gmail will be deactivated and asks you to click a link (unfortunately I wasn't able to obtain this particular address) which claims will "validate" your Googlemail account. Pretty sure we all know what really happens when you click the link.

Google will never ask you for your password (unless it is to login to your own account), or threaten that your account is scheduled for deletion via an email such as the one shown below.
