Recently, a hacker released the code for the "Mirai" malware that was used to create one of the most powerful botnets.
The botnet was responsible for the DDoS attack on Brian Krebs's website. The strength of the attack was so powerful that DDoS-protection service Akamai had to drop its pro bono work with Krebs.
According to Level 3 Communications, there were two botnets involved in the attack. One consisted of 980,000 devices while the other consisted of 500,000 devices.
What was so concerning was that the botnets consisted of an army of internet connected cameras and other "smart" devices.
