A surfer was injured after a whale flung him 10 feet in the air with one massive tale slap. The surfer was catching waves off of Australia’s Bondi Beach when the freak accident occurred.
According to the report from the Daily Mirror the 50ft creature – around the size of a double-decker bus – slapped Bishan Rajapakse in the head, knocking him unconscious, as it breached the surface.
Fellow surfer Jeremy Piggin said he and friend Mark Greig warned Bishan, 38, to move away from the mother whale, which was with its calf off Australia’s Bondi Beach
He said: “He didn’t seem to have any idea about that tail and it came out of the water and just whacked him.
“The girls were screaming and some of the other guys dived down and got him. His eyes were all rolled back and his arms were limp – it was obvious he was unconscious.
Speaking at Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital, he said: “I’ve never seen a whale that close. It didn’t seem afraid at all. It came right up, It was beautiful and it breached and we could see the barnacles. It was slowly going up and down – it was amazing.
Lifeguard Paul Martin said the whale was swimming about 100 metres off the beach. He added: “The whale ran into a group of surfers and decided it was going to play football with one of them.”
