White House Considers Retaliation Against China

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 08/04/2015 09:29 AM [ comments Comments ]

According to a report in The New York Times, even though the White House said last week it was not planning any retaliation against China for the hack on the Office of Personnel Management, the report is indicating that the Obama administration is now plotting how to taken action.

The scope of the attacks apparently persuaded the administration to act though the Times reported that officials are struggling to select a response that is both adequate and won't intensify the situation. Officials have not decided on the appropriate response, Obama has been pressing his staff to come up with a more creative response.

The first OPM breach affected 4.2 million people while the second breach affected 21.5 million federal employees. It compromised personal data that included background forms, Social Security Numbers and even fingerprints.
