We all know Zynga could use some cash so it appears they are not pleased with Bang With Friends, an app that lets you find “friends” who are down for the night. Apparently they seem to think the name is too close to Words With Friends, their popular game.
"This is a case about illegal free riding on recognized and valuable intellectual-property rights," Zynga said in a complaint filed in Federal District Court in San Francisco. "The 'WITH FRIENDS' brand is strong and has been associated with one company; Zynga."
It will be difficult to judge damages as the app is showing 100,00-500,00 downloads. Words With Friends on the other hand is showing 10,000,000 – 50,000,000 downloads. Leave it to Google to make the download count as accurate as the weather. Maybe the NSA has an accurate download count?
Apple removed the app sometime ago so ti is only available for Android on Google Play.
Zynga is asking the court to stop the company from using the "Bang with Friends" title and also pay the game maker unspecified damages.
