ObjectDock 1.0
Freeware (Page 1/1)
By: Tim Tibbetts

It's very easy to have become accustomed to the Windows taskbar. While Windows XP offers a slightly different way of using the taskbar, it is still the same old taskbar
that has been there since Windows 95. There are quite a few programs that can modify your taskbar, and a few, like ObjectDock, that look quite similar to the dock in
Macintosh operating systems.

Install was quite simple offering to launch on completion as well as providing links to the ObjectDock website, readme and WinCustomize, which features free docklets, icons, backgrounds and more.

ObjectDock can be run as is, but everything about it can be customized, and I mean everything. You can set how wide it is, which side of the screen to display it on, transparency, icons, colors, speed, smoothness and more. With every available appearance option turned on, ObjectDock uses 6-7 megabytes of memory on average. It shows every item running in your taskbar, including the clock and adds a few other shortcuts to commonly used items like My Computer and the recycle bin. It also adds a weather icon showing current temperature and an icon for cloudy, sunny, etc. Clicking this takes you to weather.com for a detailed forecast in your area. As mentioned, it's very customizable, so you can remove and add in anything you want.

I guess this review could go on for many paragraphs, but that would be a waste of everyone's time because this program can look and behave anyway you want it to. I could not find any limits to changing its appearance or behavior. You can simply use it side by side with your current taskbar, not risking any damage or changes to your operating system. You can also auto hide the program and have it appear when you move your mouse to it, making it easy to use alongside your current taskbar. If you like the way the screenshots look, you will enjoy tinkering with, and using, this program. It looks great, is fun to use and very easy to customize to your liking. Best of all, its free!

Score: (5/5 Stars)
