lspci recognises this controller as:

08:00.0 SATA controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE614x SATA II PCI-E controller (rev 01)

Drives attached are not recognised and no kernel level support is available in 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7

With gentoo-sources 2.6.21r4 doesn't work properly and hang the kernel.
Nota : same issue with gentoo-sources 2.6.22r1

Looks like some support is added for 2.6.23, but that will not get into Ubuntu anytime soon (Gutsy will probably get released with 2.6.22)

This device does not work with Gentoo kernel version 2.6.24-r8.
