The Sansa Clip is detected as a mass storage device after you switch its USB transfer mode to MSC (default is MTP).
I've used the Sansa Clip (in default MTP mode) together with banshee. Copying of music, creation of playlists, etc. works absolutely flawlessly.
P.S. the sansa firmware supports flac and ogg vorbis :)
