if you have issues with crashing and/or sound looping under xp and have already tried the patches/fixes for the game, try the following things...

1.) disable sound hardware acceleration completely in windows advanced audio options or dxdiag.

and/or

2.) if you have a multi-core processor, set the game to run on only one core.
