The Audigy Platinum EX version, including the external i/o box, also works without a hitch in ALSA. Both the audio-digital jack on the card and the coax and optical jacks on the i/o box work in digital and analog. Certain settings in ALSA must be initialized.

Works in Fedora 6, 7, Ubuntu 6.10, Ubuntu 7.04, Ubuntu 7.10, and Kubuntu 7.04.

It worked as far as driver installation, etc. but the settings were off and rendered the sound card useless for a while. It turned out that the default output for a Linux installation was the soundcard's DIGITAL output, not analog. So, for those using the ANALOG output, open a terminal window and type 'alsamixer'. Use the right arrow to move all the way to the 'Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack' (keep an eye on the Item value in the top left of the window). Now, hit the 'M' key to toggle the value between On and Off. This switches the digital output on and off. Since I was using the Analog output, I needed to have this OFF so I could listen to stuff. Worked like a charm!

Sound works great under default installation of Slackware 12.1 - the only issue, as the previous poster had pointed out - is that it defaults to digital output. If you're using analog output, you'll need to use alsamixer to adjust this as outlined above. Once that's done, you're golden.
