My wife ran some Reg fix/update. after that we could not connect to the internet and we were getting a win socket fault. It would also start up very slow.

I used my laptop to download this to a jump drive and then ran it on the bad computer. after running and restarting the computer. it ran just fine with no errors and we were able to connect to the internet.

Had a problem where DNS lookups (ping, IE7, etc.) failed as did anything using gethostbyname and other related API calls from Python. nslookup worked fine, monitoring network traffic looked OK. Able to ping by IP.
Tried ipconfig /flushdns, removed several updates including SP3 (then reinstalled), ran "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt", ran "netsh winsock reset". Nothing did the trick. Didn't matter whether DNSCache / DNS Client service was running.
This cleared the problem right up.

Resulted in a total system failure. Monitor stays black. Appears almost like it wiped the Bios. Someone tell me, what on earth do I do now??
