Fix: Desktop Icons Jump Back to Original Location When Moved
By Timothy Tibbetts |
If you're having difficulty with icons moving back to their original location when trying to rearrange them, here's a simple fix.
We've heard and seen this problem many times over the years, and Windows 10 is not immune, but the fix is simple.
1: Right-click anywhere on your desktop
2: Click on View
3: Uncheck both "Auto arrange icons" and "Align icons to grid."

This should allow you to move your icons anywhere you like.
Most likely, "Auto arrange icons" was checked and the culprit here.
"Align icons to grid" will keep your icons in a tidy up, down, left, right grid while still allowing you to move them where you like. Perfect for those OCD moments.
