Google Chrome Freezes or Hangs at 100% Downloading
By Timothy Tibbetts |
Many people have noticed that Google Chrome pauses or seems to freeze or hang at 100% downloaded when downloading a file. This is not a bug or problems as we'll explain in this brief guide.

The cause for this is your antivirus scanning the file to see if it's clean. It's as simple as that.
While a file is downloading, Google Chrome will give it a unique temporary name until the download is completed and scanned. That file name will start with Unconfirmed(random numbers) and end with crdownload. You can see this file while downloading in your Downloads folder.

Because every antivirus app is different in functionality, we can't possibly look at all of them to see if you can disable download file scanning. It's not a good idea anyway.
While frustrating, we're looking at a delay from 10 seconds to a minute most of the time. We live in a time with ridiculously fast internet, especially those of us who used dial-up modems back in the day and had to wait 15 minutes for a 1.44MB download.
