How to Block Political Posts on Twitter

By Timothy Tibbetts

on 06/15/2023

Like all social media platforms, Twitter can have plenty of political posts. If you're anything like us, we don't have an interest in seeing these. You can also block any Tweet by muting words. Here's how.

Twitter has moved the settings for muted words a few times, but you'll want to click the three dots for settings, then click Settings and privacy. Even if Twitter moves things around again, you should always find the mute options under Settings and privacy.

Scroll down and look for Muted on the right.

You can now choose from muted accounts or words. Muted accounts are accounts you already muted. You can unmute accounts after you've added muted words.

Click on Muted words, then click on the +.

Enter the muted word you've chosen. You can only mute one word, phrase, username, or hashtag at a time.

Next, choose who you're muting from and for how long. Once you've done that, click Save.

For politics, we added democrats and republicans as muted words, which should filter most of the United States political tweets from your feed. Trending topics that go one for years can be used as well — for example, impeachment and Brexit. We think fewer words muted is best, so you don't miss anything.

I just loaded up my Twitter page and breathed a sigh of relief as I enjoyed reading the posts I want.
