Is XVideos Safe?
By Timothy Tibbetts |
XVideos started around 2007, as many of the other popular adult websites. Xvideos is owned by a Czech company who also owns Bang Bros, Penthouse magazine and all its assets. But, is XVideos safe to use?
To answer the question and set the stage, let's discuss a little bit about XVideos.

One of the biggest draws to XVideos is user uploaded content or amateur videos and the social aspect. By creating a free account, you can upload, download, and comment on videos. You can also create a profile page and mane friends, build a collection of your favorite videos and chat privately with members.
XVideos has a YouTube-style format mixing professional and amateur videos featuring close to 9 million videos. On average, XVideos is a top 50-60 website worldwide with 100 billion page views per month, according to Alexa. Some ranking sites list them much higher. Xvideos is, at the time of this article, the most popular adult website.
Interesting fact - MindGeek, who owns many popular adult websites, including YouPorn and PornHub, tried to purchase XVideos in 2012. The owner of XVideos responded by stating, "Sorry, I have to go and play Diablo II." That was probably a smart move because the offer was 120 million, and XVideos is worth much more today.
So XVideos is a safe website because they are the largest adult website available. They have a reputation in that genre to protect. There are no paid accounts available surviving strictly on advertising. The social aspect also keeps users on the site longer and showing more ads.

Most people know not to click ads on porn sites, but that can happen by mistake (design). You will usually find ads on the side, bottom, above a video, and of course, popups. There are also autoplay video ads.
Of course, most of us (you) don't spend more than 5 minutes on a porn site, so be careful to avoid the ads. Many of the ads link to other pornographic websites who also want you to subscribe and many who don't offer any free content.
At the time of this article, XVideos was also running text that runs across their videos, which our "friend" found distracting.
By the way, if you subscribe to Xvideos or tolerate their ads, you can undoubtedly whitelist MajorGeeks.
No wrists were injured researching this time-consuming bit of investigative journalism.
