Save Your Metal with Rust Reformer
By Timothy Tibbetts |
Here's a product I've introduced to many people who never knew something like this existed. Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer. Rust Reformer can be sprayed on any rusting metal object and eat the rust and make the surface paintable. Pretty cool, right?
What can you spray with Rust Reformer? My favorite use has been any outdoor metal item, including furniture, fire pit rings, and more. One time I sprayed my entire car frame with this stuff. I even sprayed a few spots on a brand new auto frame. Here's an example after spraying a rusting fire pit ring.

One obvious downside is that you need to spend the time to sand and paint anything you use Rust Reformer on, or the rust will come back. Many items I spray, especially outdoor lawn furniture, grills, and fire pit rings, I just quickly spray once or twice a year.
By just spraying, I can stop the rust and prolong the life of many of my outdoor metal objects. We've used Rust Reformer for over ten years and saved ourselves hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, not having to replace our metal objects.
One tip we would add would be to wear some thin (latex?) gloves if you use the spray version. There's a good chance you'll get paint on your fingers and hands, and we've found scraping with our fingernails is often required leaving you with ugly nails.
Rust Reformer is available in a spray can (our favorite) or an 8-ounce bottle, perfect for when you can brush it on.
Rust Reformer can be purchased through Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, we earn a commission if you purchase an item using our affiliate links.
