The Truth About Aluminum-Free Deodorants
By Timothy Tibbetts |
Recently, I became interested in using aluminum-free deodorants. While doing my research to find the best aluminum-free deodorant, I discovered the only truth that was a game-changer for anyone else researching aluminum-free deodorants.
Here's what I discovered - All deodorants are aluminum-free.

Part of the confusion is that Google currently ranks news and articles higher in search based on word count. As you're doing your research, you might have noticed that most articles are incredibly long, so finding this known fact isn't as straightforward. For example, as I wrote this particular article, I am reading one of the top 5 stories in Google Search (after the advertisements), which contains 15 paragraphs of facts, myths, science, and more. If you're not paying attention, you would miss it. And we often do.
We shall now add a few paragraphs, so we seem relevant, and because it's useful information.
The confusion comes into play solely on wording alone.
When we discuss deodorants, as I just did, almost everyone uses the word deodorant as a catch-all. But, as you know, there are deodorants, and there are antiperspirants.
Deodorants don't stop perspiration but mask the smell by using fragrance or antibacterial compounds. Some people might try all-natural deodorants because some deodorants may contain chemicals to produce that smell.
Antiperspirants contain aluminum compounds that block your underarm sweat ducts and minimize body odor by preventing the bacteria that causes sweat.
All of the big boys are now getting in the "aluminum-free" game by marking their deodorants aluminum-free. A recent trip to Walgreens, and sure enough, we spotted the aluminum-free tags on most of the big-name deodorants, including Dove, Old Spice, and Arm & Hammer.

Now that you know, you can shop for the best product to suit your needs and hopefully save money by not paying 2-3x more for a niche deodorant. I've added a deodorant next to my antiperspirant to use on colder days, so I'm not always using aluminum, but you do you.
