What is Ad-Supported?

What does Ad-Supported means on MajorGeeks?

It can mean one of two things:

1: The program or app runs advertisements (ads) in some way.
2: The program or app may include PUP’s (potentially unwanted programs)

This is our way of protecting you about software that isn’t truly freeware so you can watch the installation carefully for unwanted third party programs that might try to install. Sometimes it's as simple as a company advertising their other products and it can be as bad as potentially unwanted programs (PUP's) you need to watch for during installation.

The videos below show you how to avoid this potential headache as well as the steps we take to test software before we make it available to you.

MajorGeeks has the “License” field at the top to give you a heads up about what you are downloading. We let you know what it is in one of 4 ways:

1: Freeware. This means it’s free.
2: Open Source: Free plus anyone can download the source code and modify it to their liking.
3: Shareware: Typically a restricted program that requires purchasing to unlock all features.
4: Ad-Supported: Advertising supported or third party (additional) software included.

Here's what to watch for in this video:
