What is RatVerified?

#RatVerified has been popping up on Twitter and recently was the #1 trending hashtag. So what does it mean?
Unless you have been under a rock - you may have heard that Elon Musk has recently purchased Twitter. Doing so, he has announced a number of changes; one being those content creators that have been verified will now have to pay $8.00 per month to continue to have the Blue "Verified" check box on their profile. (Originally, this was $20.00). For this $8.00, the creator with getting the badge, and according to Elon:
- Priority in replies, mentions & search, which is essential to defeat spam/scam
- Ability to post long video & audio
- Half as many ads
In response, comic strip artist Alex @tinysnekcomics, put out this tweet as a funny way to 'circumvent' the verification system and poke fun at Elon by asking people to put the rat emoji in their posts. Why a rat? Dunno. But it blew up.
In response, Elon Tweeted:
If you would like to verify your account, go to your profile icon:
- Open the main menu.
- Click 'Settings and Privacy'
- Click 'Your account' and then 'Account information'
- Click 'Verification request' 'Apply now'
- You will then be brought to a broken web page with ice cream on it (as of this writing).
It would be funnier if they put up a rat eating ice cream.
