Windows Live Essentials allows you to add programs to Windows including Movie Maker, Photo Gallery, OneDrive, Family Safety, Mail, and Writer. However, support ended in January 2017 making downloading and installing Live Essentials tricky. If you must have Live Essentials and are having difficulties, here's all you need to know.
Download the Correct File
We've seen numerous websites linking to different sources for Live Essentials, and you're often downloading an older version. MajorGeeks has the last uploaded Live Essentials here. This is the most common reason for installation errors. Your file should be 130MB.
Switch From Wired to Wireless or Vice Versa
Switching from one internet connection to another has worked for many. There's no logic or explanation here, but it only takes a minute to try.
Download the English US Language Pack
Many people not using English US should download the English US language pack for their operating system. You don't need to use the pack, just install it. Press the Windows Key + S and type in language and click on Add a language to this device. Scroll down to Add a language, click on English US, then Next. Be sure to uncheck Set as my Windows display language and finally click on Install.
If you run into any problems installing the English US language pack, then delete the C:Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder.
