Bitdefender Ransomware Recognition Tool is designed to help identify ransomware variants/strains so you can choose the correct decryption tool.

There are many ransomware variants out there with an equal number of tools to combat them, but those tools are only effective when used on the specific ransomware for which they were designed.

This tool works by quickly analyzing the ransom note as well as some encrypted file samples. It will then attempt to identify which ransomware is present on your machine and will suggest a decryption tool for use (if available). To use Bitdefender Ransomware Recognition Tool, simply choose the ransom note path or the encrypted file folder then hit scan and the tool will go to work to id the ransomware. There will be cases that it will be unable to identify the ransomware and will notify you of this. There will also be instances that it will find variants that share some traits and will display all the possible ransomware with a confidence indicator.

If there is verified ransomware present on your machine, Bitdefender Ransomware Recognition Tool provides you with links to any decryption tools that are available. We list many decryption tools so in the event that it doesn't recommend a tool we may have it for you.

Bitdefender Ransomware Recognition Tool can be run on multiple computers via the command line by using the following parameters -note:RANSOM_NOTE_LOCATION; -test:ENCRYPTED_FILES_LOCATION; this will be of interest to system admins needing to run the tool on multiple PCs.
