DocX Viewer is a freeware app for viewing DOCX document for those who can't open older DOCX files.
The application opens to a Help section, that's not much help but a description of the program. Click on File, Open to open a DOCX file. If you find you have a lot of older DOCX files, you can set, or remove, a file association. You can also open recent and open included examples. Printing is also an option.
DocX Viewer gets the job done if you have no way to open DOCX files older than 2007. That said, it's not portable, and other freeware text editors can do the same thing. The program claims to be portable, but it's not a native portable app. It needs to be installed first, at which point you can copy the folder and take it with you. If the app can be uninstalled, that's not portable.

Shows two text ads to the top left corner (see screenshots). These can be removed for $9.90.
