The HOSTS file is used for blocking unwanted web pages from loading in your browser. However, management of the file is not all that easy for novice users. The one drawback is that once loaded, the file is soon forgotten and not updated nearly often enough. The HOSTS File Manager © has several features that make it more secure against some of the newer tricks such as HOSTS file hijacking

The features currently incorporated are:

Backup of the HOSTS file (2 stage backup) (Auto and Manual)
Check the integrity of the HOSTS file.
Check for Updates of HOSTS file at http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Ability to Block Sites as you see fit.
Enable or Disable the HOSTS file
Protection against Inadvertently leaving HOSTS disabled
Protects your custom URL's when you update the HOSTS file by using a HOSTS.cst file.
Allows you to Restore a previous backup from the user Interface.
Optional password protection for "Disable HOSTS file'
Command line switch to enable scheduled updating of HOSTS
