MajorGeeks Driver Backup: Backup Your Drivers With a Single Click
At MajorGeeks, we put our systems through hell, so you don't have to by testing lots of software, including new and beta drivers. Sometimes this goes badly, and finding and reverting to the old driver is an issue. Hence, we created this MajorGeeks Driver Backup, a no-nonsense, portable PowerShell tool that helps you back up all third-party drivers in one click.
It’s the kind of utility you’ll wish you had before you need it.
This lightweight script doesn’t need to be installed, doesn’t mess with your registry, and won’t surprise you with any extra software. It just does what it says: saves your system’s third-party drivers (.inf, .sys, and related files) to a folder of your choice. The default is C:\DriverBackup
This script is also compatible with the MajorGeeks Windows Tweaks interface. Just drop it in the folder and you are good to go.
How It Works
Download and extract the .zip file. Inside, you’ll find a batch file -- Run_DriverBackup.bet. Run it and that’s it—your drivers get backed up quietly and efficiently no user interface is needed.
When it’s time to restore, right-click any backed-up .inf file and select Install. No device manager detective work. No third-party driver installers needed. This is the cleanest way to bring back the essential drivers after reinstalling Windows or moving to new hardware.
The default backup folder is c:\DriverBackup\ If you would like to change that, edit the DriverBackup.ps1 file with Notepad and change the destination to wherever you would like.
Why You Might Want This:
Let’s say you’re recycling an old Windows 7 laptop with no OEM support anymore. This tool grabs all your existing drivers so you can reinstall Windows without spending hours digging through forums or sketchy vendor sites. Or maybe you're an IT tech dealing with offline systems in locked-down environments—this keeps the driver hunt short and sweet.
Geek Verdict
If you've ever fumbled through a clean install only to realize your Wi-Fi or audio driver is MIA, you’ll understand the beauty of this tool. It’s small, smart, and does the job without fanfare. Toss it on your USB toolkit run it on every system you are repsosible for and the drivers will be there when you need it. That's when it shines.
Editor's Note:
Supports Windows 10 and 11 but should work with earlier versions, too.
