PowerCryptor is a file encryption app that helps you protect your confidential information by encrypting files or folders on your computer.

PowerCryptor can be run in two ways - by launching the app or using the context menu. It also comes with a password generator, and text encrypt. This makes a total of three apps included, but we'd prefer if they had built them all into the PowerCryptor interface. Instead, they are presented as three different apps.

Using the context menu is a nice way to encrypt a file or folder with Windows Explorer easily. The app itself is laid out like most others. In this case, it has a ribbon appearance that many who use Microsoft Office, etc. will appreciate. You can add, encrypt, decrypt and even find encrypted files or folders. We tested adding a folder and concluded that it would be easy for anyone to use. Just click encrypt and choose your password. Those more familiar with security can expand the options first and pick from six different encryption methods. By default, it will use RC2. If you don't know what this means, just leave it be, however, there's no harm trying different encryption methods although that's a Pro feature.

Text encrypt works the same as PowerCryptor. Type in your text and when finished, click Encrypt and set the password.

The password generator is more of a bonus add in and works like any other password generator. Choose case, upper case, numerals, special symbols, custom characters, length and number of passwords. Once you have those settings selected, click Generate Secure Passwords and you're done.

PowerCryptor makes it simple for anyone who wants to encrypt their data effortlessly. We'd prefer to see one more mode of encryption, but it is freemium, so only the basic encryption is provided.
