Sonic 1 Game Gear is a portable, freeware, 8-Bit remake of the classic Sonic The Hedgehog game.

Sonic 1 comes as a portable executable making the game easy to run ad backup to your collection. One annoyance is the game only runs in a 320x270 Window. Because the game was considered Alpha when last updated, there could be a key that changes this. We discovered when playtesting, for example, that ALT will pause the game. Use your arrow keys to move left or right and Z to jump.

For what we could tell testing a few levels, the gameplay and graphics seem spot on. The author says that this remake features all new mechanics, special stages, and Super Sonic.
