What Wuniq Does
Wuniq is a free knowledge management and AI context engine for Windows and Linux that helps developers, writers, researchers, and other power users stop repeating themselves every time they start a new AI chat. Instead of keeping project knowledge trapped inside individual conversations, Wuniq stores documentation, decisions, rules, and notes in a structured, local knowledge base that compatible AI assistants can reference whenever they're needed.
Wuniq gives your projects a memory that survives beyond a single AI session. Rather than relying on giant prompt files or hoping your AI remembers previous discussions, it organizes project knowledge into searchable entries and relationships that stay with the project itself.
Because everything is stored locally and exported as standard Markdown, your information isn't tied to a single AI service or cloud platform. If you decide to switch AI models later, your project knowledge goes with you.
Why Someone Would Use This Tool
Anyone who works with AI regularly has probably experienced the same frustration. Yesterday your AI understood the project architecture, coding standards, and design decisions. Today you're explaining them all over again and getting different results. That's where Wuniq is looking to earn its keep.
Let's say you are maintaining a Python project that's been growing for six months. Every day you spend the first fifteen minutes describing the folder structure, explaining why certain libraries were chosen, and reminding the AI about previous design decisions. That information is there; the engine just sees it differently and wants to make new assumptions. It's a nightmare sometimes. That information is already available, and Wuniq is used to keep that information stored, logical, and accessible. The conversation starts with solving the problem instead of rebuilding the context.
The same idea works just as well for novel writing, technical documentation, business planning, or any long-term project where information accumulates over time.
Useful Features Worth Knowing
One feature we particularly like is the ability to identify documentation that has drifted out of sync with the project. This can get messy later if overlooked during long development cycles, especially when AI is generating code and documentation at the same time. For example, you are coding, but then you ask a question about why your cat jumps on your keyboard; then every piece of code has something about your cat. You can fix that.
How to Use It
Before getting started, you'll want an MCP-compatible AI client installed, such as Claude Desktop, OpenAI Codex, or another supported application. Wuniq plugs into these clients to provide persistent project knowledge and context.
After installing Wuniq, connect it to an MCP-compatible AI client and create or import a project. From there, you can begin storing coding conventions, architecture notes, API documentation, project rules, research, meeting notes, or anything else you don't want to explain repeatedly.
The browser-based interface is pretty straightforward to navigate, but frankly, I kept getting lost because it was my browser. It sound weird but when you try it you will know. Pulling it out into its own windows is better. Once you've built up a reasonable amount of project knowledge, finding information is considerably easier than scrolling through old chat histories looking for that one conversation where an important decision was made.
The knowledge-based documentation is extensive, so plan on some time reading it to set this one up.
MajorGeeks Tip: Claude Code is in Claude desktop, but we couldn't get that working at first. installer may not immediately add C:\Users\YOUR-USERNAME\.local\bin to your PATH. If Claude is "not recognized," either add that folder to your User PATH or call claude.exe using its full path until you do. This was the only hiccup we ran into during testing. Here are the powershll commands we used to get things going. Obviously add your real user name instead of YOUR-USERNAME

Limitations or Downsides
Wuniq depends on an AI client that supports the Model Context Protocol, so it isn't something you can simply install and use with every AI application. If you're unfamiliar with MCP-based workflows, the initial setup may take a little reading. Honestly, a lot of people aren't going to have the patience for it.
It's also a tool that becomes more valuable over time. For small, short-lived projects, the extra organization may not be worth the effort. Once your projects start collecting months of documentation and design decisions, though, the benefits become much easier to appreciate.
Geek Verdict
Wuniq solves one of the biggest annoyances of AI-assisted work, losing context between sessions. By keeping project knowledge organized, searchable, and independent of any single AI provider, it lets your conversations start where your last session ended instead of back at square one. If AI is part of your daily workflow, Wuniq is well worth a look. If you only use AI occasionally, you probably won't need it, but anyone juggling larger projects might appreciate the time it take to set up for what it brings to the table.
