Why is the file I just downloaded named getfile.php and how do I open it?

MajorGeeks is a databased site. Sometimes that will cause problems with downloads depending on the program you are using. With out getting into too much, files aren’t files in a database, they are a number. So instead of downloading “funprogram.exe” you really are sending a call to request something like “getfile.php?file=99999&site=33”. Some programs can get confused by this and forget to rename the file back to “funprogram.exe”, tending to save them as something like “getfile.php or similar. When you try to them run the program on your machine , your machine now gets confused with what to do with something called .PHP. If that happens, you need to rename the file to what it should be; in the case funprogram.exe and it should work fine. If you don’t know what the file name was supposed to be and don’t feel like going back to look it up, here’s a tip. 99% of all files at MajorGeeks end in either .exe or .zip. So you can rename the file “anything.exe” if you get an error, rename it “anything.zip” and you should be in business. Enjoy.
