$6.3 Million security breach at Brazilian Samsung factory

Posted by: Jon Ben-Mayor on 07/08/2014 09:11 AM [ comments Comments ]

Armed bandits besieged the Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. factory near Sao Paolo, Brazil and made off with truckloads of notebook computers, tablets and smartphones. The seven armed robbery started the heist off with commandeering an employee shuttle bus and then proceeded to hold 50 overnight employees hostage for several hours.

According to the Register, the thieves then disarmed the security guards and gathered all the workers together to ensure they were not able to contact anyone on the outside.

Once they had taken over the factory, 13 more criminals arrived in the getaway trucks and used radios and mobiles to coordinate the lifting of the loot.

Police earlier Monday valued the loot at up to $36 million, but Samsung later said it was much lower and declined to give further details.
