Amazon continues its growth and quality by creating a new worldwide cargo hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. It's the largest investment in that airport's history.
Amazon has committed to investing $1.49 billion and nearly 3,000 new jobs to the region. The largest deal before this was Delta Air Lines $379 million hub expansion in 1993.
Amazon will build several buildings on close to 920 acres of land, including a 3 million-square-foot sorting facility and a 350,000 square-foot loading dock. It also plans to make enough ramp space to house 100 cargo jets.
The jobs will pay an average hourly wage of $26 with benefits.
Cincinatti.com also reports that it's the largest one-time business deal ever executed in Northern Kentucky.
CVG beat out the Wilmington Air Park for Amazon and also beat out Wilmington for DHL's North American hub several years ago.
Amazon has not yet set a date for its groundbreaking, nor has the company set a timetable for adding the jobs. However, Amazon Prime Air plans to start operating some flights there in April.
