Another Sony hacker arrested: Lulzsec

A second alleged hacker has been arrested in connection with an attack on Sony Pictures by LulzSec in June 2011. According to a report from the Reuters news agency, the FBI arrested a man by the name of Raynaldo Rivera on Tuesday in conjunction with the attack, in which the hacktivist group claimed to have obtained more than a million data records of users from SonyPictures.com; however, Sony later stated that the number was actually closer to 40,000.

Also known as "neuron," "royal" and "wildicv", Rivera has been charged by a federal grand jury with conspiracy and unauthorized impairment of a protected computer. The 20-year old from Tempe, Arizona allegedly participated in the SQL injection attack on the studio's site, attempting to hide his activity using a proxy server. Information obtained in the attack included the addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses and passwords of both administrators and users of the site, all of which was said to have been saved in unprotected plain text.

The indictment states that Rivera helped to publicly post the private data on LulzSec's web site and also made the announcement of the intrusion on its Twitter account. If convicted he could face up to 15 years in prison. Cody Kretsinger, another LulzSec member, was arrested in September of last year for the Sony Pictures breach and pled guilty in April.
