BitTorrent Hacked

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 06/08/2016 10:50 AM [ comments Comments ]

If you are a member of the BitTorrent forums, be aware that it has been hacked and you are advised to change your password.

BitTorrent has a total of 150 million monthly active users and the forums have 388,000 registered members. What was stolen was users' email addresses, usernames, IP addresses, and salted SHA1 hashed passwords.

"The vulnerability appears to have been through one of the vendor’s other clients. However, it allowed attackers to access some information on other accounts," BitTorrent writes. "As a result, attackers were able to download a list of our forum users."

Users are asked to change their passwords and also passwords to other sites if they are using the same password on multiple sites.
