California DMV may have been hacked

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 03/23/2014 03:08 PM [ comments Comments ]

The California Department of Motor Vehicles is warning any of its customers that may have used their credit cards to renew a driver’s license or pay a fee to keep a vigilant eye on their accounts.

According to the DMV, a hack affected its payment processor. It was issuing the warning “out of an abundance of caution.” However it states that: “There is no evidence at this time of a direct breach of the DMV’s computer system.”

The DMV did not speculate as to how many may be affected. However, it is advising people to consider placing a fraud alert on your credit report, just in case.
