Celebrities Hacker Gets Five Years

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 12/09/2016 08:11 AM [ comments Comments ]

Alonzo Knowles, a 24-year-old Bahamian man, was arrested last year for hacking into celebrities' email accounts.

His intention was to steal the unreleased movie and television scripts, their private messages, and sex tapes to sell them.

He was convicted by U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer in Manhattan on Tuesday and sentenced to five years in prison.

His hacking resulted in a list of emails and phone numbers of 130 celebrities. He plead guilty to charges of identity theft and criminal copyright infringement.

His sentence was twice the length of time under federal guidelines. The judge in the case stated: that Knowles "would be a clear and present danger to commit the very same crime again."

With his guilty plea, he handed over unreleased scripts, songs, and $1,900 in cash.

The authorities searched his laptop and found:

• Social Security numbers for actors and professional athletes
• Private, explicit images
• Scripts for unreleased TV shows and movies and even contract documents
• Emails and phone numbers of at least 130 celebrities
• Sex tapes of celebrities

The laptop was destroyed by authorities.

Knowles was expecting to make some big bucks when he flew to the U.S. from the Bahamas intending to sell 15 movie and TV shows scripts and the Social Security Numbers (SSNs) of a movie actress and two athletes for $80,000. Unfortunately for Knowles, the buyer was an undercover U.S. Department of Homeland Security agent.
