We reported a new ransomware variation called Stampado that was being marketed for $39. It has not been reported in a live infection, but rather found being sold as a Ransomware-as-a-Service on the Dark Web.
Researchers from Emisoft have created a decrypter for the ransomware and it is now available. Stampado does not use the same method of most ransomware but instead uses emails to contact the criminals for payment. So, all that is needed for the decrypter to work is the email address and the ID Stampado had used for their computers.
All a victim needs to do is run the decrypter from Emisofts website, add the email address and ID to the Options section of the app, and press the Decrypt button when ready.
Victims are encouraged to make copies of the encrypted files in case the decrypter runs into problems.
To quote Faviar Wosar from Emisoft on Twitter: "Stampado clearly isn't worth the $39 they ask for. Shitty ransomware made by probably shittier devs."
