Disney Cruise Boat Rescues Hacker

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 02/22/2016 05:34 AM [ comments Comments ]

Martin Gottesfeld, 31, of Somerville, Mass., disappeared while under investigation for a cyberattack on Boston Children's Hospital in April 2014.

He was found and rescued by a Disney Cruise boat with his wife aboard their disabled craft off the coast of Cuba.

According to a release from the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney's Office, Gottesfeld Caribbean cruise came to an abrupt end on Feb. 16 when Gottesfeld placed a distress call after his boat ran into trouble.

The charges against Gottesfeld include one count of conspiracy for his alleged role in a DDoS attack that took down the hospital's website and disrupted operations for about a week.

The news release stated that: “Responding to, and mitigating, the damage from this attack cost the hospital more than $300,000.”

The Somerville Police Department conducted a wellness check and found his apartment abandoned and his whereabouts was a mystery.
