EBay recruits users in push against sales tax legislation

Ebay is looking to Amazon to get their users to stop looming federal sales tax legislation on the internet. Combining the numbers of Ebay, Amazon and more is a ridiculous number of people but will your leaders listen?

Don’t forget as well that raising taxes will, as always, be passed onto the little guy who is trying to save money. It costs more to any online retailer than simply adding 7, 8 or 9 percent. A lot more. That will go into listing and\or shipping and handling fees and that will go into the cost of items.

According to Reuters In emails to eBay sellers, Donahoe singled out Amazon.com Inc, eBay's main rival, which supports the current legislation.

"This legislation treats you and big multi-billion dollar online retailers - such as Amazon - exactly the same," Donahoe wrote. "Those fighting for this change refuse to acknowledge that the burden on businesses like yours is far greater than for a big national retailer."

The scope of eBay's lobbying effort suggests the company may have more to lose than Amazon if the legislation becomes law in its current form.
