Experian credit report scam on the rise

I noticed a lot of new emails claiming to be from Experian warning me that there is a problem with my credit report. There are numerous flags here although it might just scare the average computer user.

The first flag is the typical mass email attempt. In this case they are trying anything they can that starts with a “t” as seen in the screenshot below.



As you can see below, the attempt is to scare you into thinking that your credit has been compromised. It looks like the Experian website, as far as you know and even has correct links to the Experian website.



You are given instructions on how to resolve it with the top 3 suggestions being to open the attached file. We opened it to see what is inside and it is an executable.

This is pretty basic spam 101 as most people, know enough not to open attachments - we hope.
