Facebook 'poke' leads to real life death

Posted by: Jon Ben-Mayor on 10/05/2014 06:29 AM [ comments Comments ]

A man in the UK became so insanely jealous over a 'poke' on Facebook that was sent to his girlfriend by a mutual friend - he beat him to death.

Scott Humphrey repeatedly punched Richard Rovetto after the pair had an argument in a taxi on the way home from a stag do in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

The fight broke out when Humphrey, 27, accused Mr Rovetto of contacting his girlfriend, saying that he had 'poked' her on Facebook.

Sending someone a virtual 'poke' on the social networking site is often seen as a way of flirting with them.

Humphrey struck Rovetto so hard at one point that he fell to the ground and hit his head on the pavement - ultimately causing his death.

Humphrey, from Nottingham, admitted manslaughter in court and was jailed for four years and four months.
