FBI May Have Spent $1.3 Million to Unlock iPhone

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 04/23/2016 05:50 AM [ comments Comments ]

There are published reports which are trying to estimate what the FBI paid hackers to unlock the iPhone of the San Bernardino terrorists.

FBI Director James Comey Jr. answered questions with reporters at a London conference and said that the cost was "more than I will make in the remainder of this job, which is seven years and four months, for sure.”

Comey makes a salary of $185,000 per year, which equates to $1.35 million prorated out for the remainder of his term in office.

The FBI has not confirmed neither this figure nor who it was that helped break into the phone, but there is speculation that it was the Israeli firm Cellebrite along with other grey hat hacking firms.
